Moving In

July 22, 2023

Over the last few weeks I’ve been setting up gear and my office upstairs.

The morning after finishing the trim, my family helped me unbox the new drum kit and setup the amps and keyboards.

The rugs are 100% wool, and take some time to lay flat after being wrapped quite tightly around a cardboard tube for shipping.

Most of my equipment was in my bedroom, including an electronic drum kit I have been selling off in pieces to finance the new acoustic one.

The drum kit is a Mapex Armory Series Exotic Studioease Shell Pack With Fast Toms in Ultramarine Gloss with Gibraltar 9000 series hardware and Zildjian A Custom cymbals.

I upgraded the mixer and attached some custom wood table tops to a cheap desk. I will eventually upgrade, but for now this is a very capable mixer.

This Presonus 16.0.2 USB has 16 analog channels, each with a ton of signal processing, a very unique feature for such a small and affordable mixer.

I also got a second guitar amp and effects pedal for a second guitarist.

There’s two Orange 35RT amps for guitar and an Orange Crush Bass 100 for bass. For effects there are two Boss ME-70 pedals for guitar and an Boss ME-50B for bass.

The lounge now has a glass coffee table, where a stack of recent Sound on Sound magazines lives.

These Vox Pathfinder amps are great for noodling, as they aren’t very loud but do have a fantastic sound.

For my office, since I can’t mount the monitor to the wall, I built this overkill monitor stand from a flat-screen TV stand and a wall TV mount. It’s very sturdy.

I passionately dislike monitors sitting on the desk, as they tend to vibrate when I type or fidget.

Finally I moved my office from my bedroom, and setup my near-field monitors on some sand-filled monitor stands.

The bias lighting on the back of the monitor wasn’t enough now that it’s not against a wall, so I added some WiFi controlled washes on the floor behind the desk.
