Drywall

The last couple weeks have been very busy with getting the drywall installed.

This would turn out to be most, but not all, of the finishing materials needed for the job.

I hired out the labor, but was responsible for all materials.

I never did figure out why they didn’t start with a full sheet on the bottom, or take advantage of the framing design and run the drywall vertically.

Partially due to my own inexperience with calculating drywall and partially due to some of the less efficient ways in which they laid out the sheets, I ended up running out of drywall after the first day.

The drywall was installed with both glue and screws, reducing the chance of low frequency vibrations causing any rattles.

Thanks to Adam, who dropped everything to meet me at Home Depot before it closed with a van that could hold drywall, we were able to get 22 more sheets on site in a couple of hours of being told we needed more.

There was about 30 sheets of waste, that it took two separate dump runs.

For them to finish hanging, I ended up having to get another 8 sheets the next day.

The butt joints were spread out very wide, making them pretty much invisible.

After a couple days of plastering things were ready to sand and prime.

The primer was sprayed and then back-rolled, leaving a smooth finish with a very small amount of orange-peel texture.

Once the primer went on, suddenly the place started looking a lot like the renderings.

The rigging support beams were covered such that they blended into the top ceiling area, making for a sleek look.

The live room ceiling will be all flat black which will make the details much less visible, but I was really glad to see how nice it came out.
