Downstairs Trim

May 7, 2023

Now that the hardwood is in, I was eager to get the last of the trim done.

Though the live room had a lot of corners, the lounge was more complex given all the angled cuts.

The filler putty goes on with a putty knife and wipes away with a damp tile sponge. This process is very fast and much less messy.

I filled all the nail holes with a filler putty that dries slower but much harder than the filler I used on the walls.

It was also finally time to paint the last door frame, which had been put off until now.

Since I’m spray painting the metal door frames, I had to use much more masking to avoid overspray.

I used a special masking tape on the walls to avoid damaging the relatively fresh paint. I then rolled on a final coat on the baseboards, covering all the now filled nail holes.

It can take up to a month for this latex paint to fully cure, depending on the humidity and temperature.

I also hung the guitars on the wall, which look great under the track lighting.

The perfectly symmetrical 24 in. OC framing really paid off, as I was able to nicely space each guitar while mounting each hanger into a stud.

I am very pleased with the final result.

By design, the muted color scheme allows the instruments in the room to be the center of your attention.
